5 Simple, Delicious Drinks to Fight Aging

There’s no way to avoid aging. It is, unfortunately, inevitable. While we can’t stop the process entirely, we can slow it down a good deal. Forget those expensive creams that promise more than they deliver. The answer to your anti-aging questions is probably sitting in your pantry or refrigerator right now. Keep reading to find out the 5 drinks that help you fight aging and maintain youthfulness.

Coffee

The best part of waking up is getting a cup of the good stuff. Coffee contains age-fighting antioxidants that protect the body from damage. It’s been mentioned that coffee can fight off diseases such as depression, type 2 diabetes, and Parkinson’s. Studies show a correlation between coffee consumption and a lower risk of basal cell carcinoma. Additional studies have found that moderate coffee consumption could reduce the risk of (or at least delay) the onset of Alzheimer’s.

Tea

Coffee not your cup of tea? Drink tea! Tea is an excellent substitute with several anti-aging properties for those who just can’t do coffee. Green tea is rich in antioxidants, also known as polyphenols, which help slow aging and cell damage. Studies have shown that green tea could be helpful in the prevention of several conditions such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and osteoporosis. Another study found a polyphenol called EGCG in green tea that can revitalize dying skin cells. Other types of teas are just as packed with anti-aging antioxidants. For example, white tea has been known to delay the deterioration of collagen and elastin which helps to prevent skin aging.

Red Wine

Red wine contains polyphenols that help protect your blood vessels and arteries. Specifically, red wine has a polyphenol that’s very popular in the media today called Resveratrol. Resveratrol is believed to help lower bad cholesterol, which is why your doctor may have told you to start drinking a daily glass. However, doctors also like to stress that if you don’t currently drink, don’t start just to reap the benefits of drinking red wine. If you do currently imbibe alcohol, always do it in moderation.

Aloe Vera

Aloe Vera isn’t just for sunburns anymore. This funny looking green plant is rich in vitamins A, C, and E and has anti-inflammatory properties. Aloe Vera has been known to help wounds heal with minor scarring, and it also strengthens skin fibers. A small study conducted with women over the age of 45 revealed that taking liquid Aloe Vera supplements for 90 days improved skin elasticity and minimized the appearance of wrinkles.

Pomegranate Juice

Tart, delicious, and rich in antioxidants. While you may not know exactly how to eat a fresh pomegranate (what’s the deal with those little globules?), pomegranate juice is conveniently available in bottle form at most supermarkets. It contains polyphenols and is super-rich in other antioxidants, as well. A study conducted in 2011 found that pomegranate juice slows the natural deterioration on your DNA caused by oxidation. Study participants were given pomegranate extract and within 30 days there was a decrease in cell damage.

Keep in mind when drinking these juices to check labels and make sure there isn’t too much added sugar and other additives. Pomegranate could interact with certain medications, so be sure to ask your doctor.
